We were very impressed with this book. Storey's book has the information you need to know about all of the "unknown" things about chickens. We learned many things we had no idea even existed about raising our chickens. Everyone will benefit from this well written guide to raising your chickens.

5 out of 5 stars I own a flock now!   December 30, 2009
Daniele Giuffrida (Italy)
I started thinking about a coop and a flock last year, in 2008. I toured on the internet and checked many websites, during some months, and actually found a lot of interesting information. I needed to start from scratch, I was living in a city up to some years ago, I had no knowledge at all of chickens.

I bought and read this book at the end of 2008. I was amazed by the quality and quantity of detailed information I found there. It was written for me and for my needs and my stupid basic questions.
Clear explanations on how to design a coop. How much space is needed for chicks to grow up happily. How much water I had to provide for in the summertime. And predators, illnesses, common mistakes, and many more important things. All very detailed and useful!

I own a flock, now.
This book gave me all the information I needed to really start. And the inspiration to go on in this hobby.
I collect eggs everyday now, with my big pleasure. And I'm very happy of my choice: this book is a must for every beginner! I recommend it absolutely.

5 out of 5 stars Just what the beginer needs.   November 9, 2009
Chris Paslay (Brookland, Ar)
I purchased this book after buying some chicks for my kids last Easter. After having the chicks for a few days and us all falling in love with them and their antics, I decided that I better learn some more about chickens so that we would be able to better care for them. That's when I came across this book at our local library. It was great!!! The writer did a wonderful job in covering all the basics we needed to get started. We continued checking this book out several times before I ordered it from Amazon.

I refrence this book frequently, using it to learn how to do everything from select the correct feed we needed, to building the coop, to managing the health of our little flock. My family has found that taking care of our chickens has been very rewarding and expect to expand our flock next spring.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about getting started raising chickens. It is well written and easily understood. It covers everything you need to know, starting with selecting what breed to purchase all the way up to butchering and selling eggs.
