Yankee Barbecued Spare Ribs

Get your fingers dirty when eating these delicious spare ribs.


4 pounds meaty pork spareribs
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1 large onion, chopped
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 vinegar, or lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup catsup
2 cups water


Spread ribs, meaty side up in a roasting pan.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Arrange lemon slices on ribs and brown, uncovered and bake at 450F in a oven for 45 minutes.

Mix remaining ingredients together to make sauce. Pour over ribs.

Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for 1-1/2 hours.

Do not cover, but baste and turn ribs occasionally.

If sauce gets too thick, add a little water.
